PRL restart

hi guys,

im sure most of your senior members know who i am by now but im 05grottim of the CB! clan. Before i get to my point i just wanted to say something quickly. I know in the past we havent been the best clan- that's an understatement really. However over the past 2 months things have changed. I guess we've matured a little and i wanted to give something back and i think we can agree that PR lacks a league where we can all stack up against eachother.

I was browsing the PR forums and i came across a thread saying that the PRL has now officially died. http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f75-...-closed-2.html for me this is a great loss and i did offer to run the league when they first advertised they were looking for a new leader. They chose bigwookie and although he's a great guy he didnt really give it the attention it needed and also frequent hack attacks meant the website kept going down.

However im here to give the project 100%. Before getting a template and a domain i need the support of clans and large clans such as yourselves on board would really help us in getting enough people.

What i envisage is a league which is PR dedicated with nothing else for now. I think ladders catering for the smaller clans who like to play skirmishes and then a ladder for larger clans such as yourselves which would have 20vs20 and 32vs32. What i would really like is for you guys to jump on board as a sort of supporter.

This will take clan battles to a new level and of course bring out the competitive edge in all of us. I'm hoping to count you in and give me any questions that you want answering in the thread and ill do my upmost to answer them all

Wow, haven't noticed that the League is dead. Hm.

What kind of support would you need? I mean, we (meaning the PR section of GCA) could sign up and smash the other teams into pieces, but what else do you need?

Also, before starting this whole thing, you should do an analysis as to why the League actually died. Why didn't Clans sign up? Why weren't there any battles? Then you can specifically target these problems.

that's exactly what i need. Clans signed up however not enough people used it to arrange the matches. The problem with it was that the script was bugged. However ive come across a good one that seems to be good. I've got the time to put in however i would need a good set of admins to run it along side me and i think that was the problem last time. I will make a post in the PR forums asking for anyone interested and hopefully it will be succesful. I'll try and work as hard as i can to get it ready for 0.9 and hopefully competitive PR can start up again.

Make an admin out of every big clan leader? :P :O Then they feel obliged to use it too..

that's a good idea but im not sure they would want to as they've got quite a lot to do without this as well. Btw site is up www.pr-league.com

wow, grottim, that is exactly what I wanted to ask you for, a demo version of the league software, so we can test what it has and what it still needs.

First question, do individual players have to sign up or can a representative just sign up his entire clan?

Is there a way to prevent "cheating" (using players not from your clan)? Since some people might be concerned about that.

hmm yeah i had to try and recode that KML ladder. Unfortunately it completely died on me and even with the help of some coding experts in my clan i couldnt salvage it. So instead i moved onto another much more reliable and recommended script. ill send you a demo they have on the site- i should be getting it tonight. http://eliteladders.com/demo/index.php once that's up i will need to get the forums started etc. Hope to have it up at least for ppl to look at by the weekend.

The rules are really in debate at the moment. I was talkin to a few guys about it and GUIDs for individual players seems ok for skirmish. But for AAS it would seem harsh to make teams forefit 32vs32 just because of a GUID problem. Maybe some sort of ticket penalty could be sorted.

I would probably say it's best to get the whole team signed up as it would make the league active- which was its problem last time. Aslong as we can encourage teams to use PRL when they have matches then i can see this being a success.

comiong back to my original post that i do need referees and forum moderators etc. I'm no expert on AAS matches either and so would need help devising the rules for that. Ive had lots of dealings in skirmish but only a couple of games in AAS. It would be nice if we could get a spread of refs instead of keeping them to the same few clans that seem to be active so an impartial decision is guarenteed.

Finally sorry about the gap in the posting here ive been busy with the other script amongst other things so havent had a chance to check all the threads ive made :P just want to thank you for the enthusiasm you're showing towards the project as it's nice to see the big clans showing support.

IMHO It doesn't have to be a complex ladder system. My problem with the last attempt of the prleague was that the site was fugly, way too complicated to use and didn't work properly.

Just have a site where you
a) have a forum
b) can sign up with your whole clan
c) arrange matches (and additionally multi-clan 32player matches)
d) is so easy to use that retards and old people can use it.
e) doesn't show you tons of information when you look at it
f) doesn't burn your eyes everytime you look at it

Unless these things are fullfilled without any problems I don't see a bright future for this "attempt" at reviving the prleague since people just won't bother using it. Don't bother about tons of features, make it simple and functional.

WHEN there is a site running and working as a base like this, we can figure out all the rest like rules, requirements, finding the right Admins and other stuff, which is also a lot of work and not an easy thing to do. (The PRT fails here for example)

And THEN we have to see if the PR community accepts it and that people actually use it.

I don't know man, I want to be honest - I still don't trust you cbpr guys (even though you are probably a good guy grottim), which is why I have my doubts about this whole thing, but if you guys are serious about it and are really motivated to do this (and not just for a short while until everyone loses interest like so many projects on the internet) then you have my full support. Because the PR Community needs a league.
